I'm going in...

Let Christians Vote as Though They Were Not Voting

Please take a moment to read the article in the above link. It is inspiring to say the least. Thanks, Courtney for sharing it on your blog.

I have stayed out of political talk in recent weeks. Yet I woke up this morning at 5:10 a.m. and my first thought was about who won the election. I didn't stay awake to see it last night, so I shuffled out to my laptop this morning. The headlines read, "Democrat Wins Presidency". And so he did.

How should I put this? The Republican candidate was not the Savior. It was a little disheartening to me to hear Christians and conservatives talking about how the Republican candidate would do all of this wonderful stuff in office as they sang his praises. Before you go and get upset with me, let me remind you that I am very conservative in my views and identify myself as a Republican, since the party views are more in line with my personal convictions. However, I do not place my hope in our President. I do not despair because a Republican will not be in office. I hold fast to the verse in I John 2:17 which says "The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever." Philippians 3:20 also says that "...our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ." I am a child of God first and my Savior's name is Jesus Christ. My permanent citizenship is in heaven, not in America, as grateful as I may be to live in this free nation.

The Word of God is clear. God establishes those in authority. Romans 13:1 says that "Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God."

Lastly, 1 Timothy 2:1-3 says this: "First of all, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior."

Friends, we have a call to pray. I want to lead a quiet life in all godliness and dignity. I want my children too, as well. Therefore, I must pray for our President elect. Will things go my way? No. Will there be laws made that I don't agree with? Absolutely. Will I get up in arms and take political sides or will I bow before my Lord and pray for our President? I will stand on God's Word, knowing that my duty and responsibility as a citizen of this nation is to pray.

I hope that you will take up your duty and responsibility as a citizen of this nation, as well. Together, we truly can make an impact.
