Moving here was a choice that we made and it was one that was made with prayer, deliberation and a healthy dose of reality. We won't get to see our extended family nearly as much as we want to. Grandmothers (a.k.a free, willing babysitters) will live 300 miles away. We will miss birthdays, anniversarys, holiday get-togethers and Sunday dinners. Our parents and grandparents are getting older and they will miss the day-to-day growing of these boys.
That being said, there's nothing quite like the feeling that two special people drove 700 miles round trip this weekend just to see 'us'. (No small feat considering that gas is over $4 a gallon.) They brought some Christmas gifts that were left behind, treated us to several meals out, and watched the children while Keith and I went on a much-needed date.
More importantly, they loved on us. They loved on the kids, marveled at how smart they are and how much they have grown. And gave plenty of hugs and kisses.
Most important of all, my husband had the chance to see his mom and stepdad. With his birthday coming next week, he really just wanted to see family.
Thank you!! We love you and appreciate that you came. It means so much.

What a comfort family can be. Makes difficult days tolerable and great days just that much sweeter. And absence makes the heart grow fonder is certainly a true adage. Good to hear that you got some breathing time and some burdens off you and Keith's shoulders.
